Coronavirus (Covid-19) Accessing Benefits Page

As of March 22, 2020, New York State has been on PAUSE. This means that all non-essential businesses have been directed to suspend activities, and New Yorkers refrain from leaving their homes except for essential trips, such as for food and medical visits. As a result of the PAUSE act, Grand Street Guild understands that many residents have been affected by the closure of their businesses or have had their hours severely reduced. This page is a guide for residents to access the benefits and services that are available for all New Yorkers. If you have any questions you can contact Grand Street Guild Community & Social Services at 646-856-6385 (En/Esp) or 646-984-0167(En/Cn).

The IRS has recently launched their online portal for non-filers to provide the necessary information to receive an economic impact check (Coronavirus Relief Check) even if you have not filed a tax return for 2018 or 2019. If you need assistance navigating the portal please contact Henry Orbe at NYLAG. (347-286-1631)

Coronavirus (Covid-19) Public Health Page

There is widespread community transmission of COVID-19 in New York City, meaning the sources of new infections are unknown. Everyone in New York City should act as if they have been exposed to COVID-19. That means you should monitor your health closely and stay home. Only go out for essential supplies and services, such as groceries or urgent medical care.

Staying home will help slow the spread of COVID-19 and will protect others from becoming critically ill and dying. Staying home also protects essential workers, including health care providers and retail workers, who must continue to work. Essential workers need to stay healthy to continue to provide services, such as caring for the sick and keeping groceries and food available.

Grand Street Guild Coronavirus (Covid-19) Resource Page

Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. The W.H.O. has declared Covid-19 a global pandemic. To minimize your risk, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends you engage in good hygiene practices and social distancing. The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has determined that Covid-19 is in widespread community transmission. This means that you should self-quarantine as much as possible. As of 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, every New Yorker must stay at home from work, unless they are an essential worker. Governor Cuomo has extended this order to May 15, 2020.

Memo to all residents regarding Section 8

Grand Street Guild Apartments
New York, New York

November 21, 2019

TO: Residents of Grand Street Guild Apartments
FROM: Grand Street Guild
RE: SECTION 8

We are writing to summarize the locked-in affordability restrictions applicable to the Grand Street Guild Projects at 131 Broome Street, 460 Grand Street, and 410 Grand Street. We want you to know you can be assured that your apartment’s affordability is safe and secure.

Section 8

In August 2015, each of the Grand Street Guild Projects entered into a new Project Based Section 8 Contract with HUD which runs for a term of 20 years through September 1, 2035. In addition, each Project signed an extension to the Section 8 Contract which provides that upon expiration in 2035, the Contract shall automatically renew for a term of 15 years through August 30, 2050.

This means your Section 8 subsidy is safely in place for the next 30 years through 2050. The Guild will use its best efforts to extend that term whenever possible.

Use Agreement

In addition, in 2012, each Project entered into an Agreement with HUD which provides that, through May 1, 2050, the 600 units at 131, 460 and 410 shall be used solely as rental housing for Low Income Families (persons or families whose annual incomes do not exceed 80% of the Area Median Income) or Very Low Income Families (persons or families whose annual incomes do not exceed 50% of the Area Median Income).

This means that for the next 30 years vacant apartments at each Project shall only be rented to Low or Very Low-Income families.

Please contact the Management Office if you have any questions.
